Every writer I’ve ever met spends the run-up to their book’s publication anxiously awaiting news from their publicist. I hope this interview will make that wait a little less mystifying.
This is so incredibly helpful! As a debut writer, I feel like I don’t have enough context for various aspects of the business, and it’s hard to maintain realistic expectations (and rational optimism!) without that context. This interview really helps close the gap in knowledge. Thank you for sharing!
This interview was so helpful! Joanna Schroeder and I are filling out our author questionnaires for our book "TALK TO YOUR BOYS" this week (the book is due out in September) and will be meeting with the publicity team at our publisher, Workman, soon. Thank you for sharing this at just the right moment.
The AQ is so important! If I may give some unsolicited advice, I'd suggest organizing your contacts for the AQ in a Google sheet or a similar "live" doc that you can update and share with your publicist and team. Include this with your AQ, and good luck!
Terrifically interesting. As someone on the media side, I have tremendous respect and sympathy for the publicist’s task.
I couldn't agree more!
I know this is wildly off topic but...I need the bracelet in the cover photo. 😍
My former assistant found it! She decided the look of the Substack should be "Goth Catholic," AKA the original Dark Academia.
I love that & basically describes my entire childhood/adolescence 😂❤️🔥

Thank you, Kat!! That's exactly why I'm doing this. (Also, your Substack is superb!)

I’m about to fill out my AQ. Thanks for this tip!
Thanks, that’s smart advice
