This is such a wonderful conversation. It’s so interesting to see the other side of this ambition/pursuit of a dream. I’ve always been on the relentless pursuit of my writing career, so its fascinating to hear from someone who almost resisted it and still made their career work. Lovely conversation.
Wow, thank you for capturing this conversation! When I moved to Columbus, Ohio at the start of the pandemic, I was deeply adrift after losing my job in journalism. I used to browse the used bookstores for a low-cost distraction, and one of the shops featured Hanif’s books—proudly recognizing him as a local author. I treated his work like textbooks, studying how he constructs entire worlds on the page, and it advanced my understanding of where personal narrative can take you. I’m very grateful for his writing. Thank you for sharing!
I love Hanif’s work so much! Thank you for this;)
Thank you for reading! He's the best.

Thank you for this!
Excellent, excellent conversation. I’ve been selling his books but have yet to sit down and read one through and I’m looking forward to it
Thank you so much, Emma! My personal favorite is A LITTLE DEVIL but they are all superb.
