This was such a helpful post, I'm really excited about marketing as a literary fiction author at the moment and constantly searching for real examples of how the books I loved connect with the readers who will love them back. Thank you!
Love this interview! (And not just because I happen to be the school friend...) Marketing in a way that really stands out is such a challenge, and I love insight into how different people approach it, especially from the other side of the desk.
I am! (Fun fact: we were best friends in first grade, and then she transferred schools and we didn't reconnect again until we went to college together.) My career in editorial ended up being considerably shorter and less impressive; I think bringing Ayelet to the house was probably the most impressive thing I ever did over there. Outside of becoming an author, it might be my greatest publishing achievement.
This is a terrific interview.

Your newsletters are full of so much value and so many big ideas — thank you!!!
Thank you so much, Kara! It's more work than it seems, so comments like these mean a lot.
